Today in SCIENCE we:
  • Did a lab! How do acids & bases react when mixed together?
  • Do they need water to do something interesting? Why or Why not?
  • How can you tell a chemical reaction is taking place?
  • Do you understand how a tripple beam balance works? Say that ten times really fast!
  • Were you able to complete the lab successfully?
  • Complete the lab sheet for homework.
  • Listened to the Acids & Bases song. Yes, there is a song! Filled in the blanks for the lyrics on the back of our lab sheet. There is alot of really useful information in that song!
  • 9D & 9G - you will be handing in p195 #1-7 on Monday. I forgot to take it in today. This is your "grace period" use it wisely.
  • HOMEWORK: Finish the lab sheet! Your CONCLUSIONS should answer the PROBLEM we set out to solve at the begnining of the lab. DUE MONDAY.

Today in SCIENCE:

  • ALL CLASSES: Talked about the SCIENCE common written assessment.
  • 9D & 9G - handed in sia9 p190 #1-10.
  • 9D & 9G - Read sia9 p191-195, did p195 #1-7. You will hand this in tomorrow.
  • ALL CLASSES - Talked about pH - litmus paper & Universal Indicators.....how do they work?
  • 9A & 9H - watched Planet Earth Ice Worlds - how does it relate to Environmental Chemistry? Think about it, you will be doing a journal entry!
  • I gave detentions today. It was a sad day. Come to class prepared with all of your materials, it is not respectful to anyone when you arrive to class empty handed. If you missed your detention, I have your name on a list, if you don't want that list to make its way to administration, you had better come & talk to me.

  • 9D & 9G had their presentations about high school registration from Mrs. Murray. If you have any questions please see her. This is VERY important. If you have a change of address please see her by MONDAY at the LATEST!
  • 9D & 9G - you will hand in sia9 ayl p 190 #1-10 tomorrow.
  • 9A & 9H - felt a bit of my rage. 6 people per class had their homework ready. WHAT?! You had several days and lots of time to get this done. Most disappointing. No homework, no lab activity.
  • 9A & 9H - read sia9 p191-195, do p 195 #1-7. Handed it in at the end of class. Do you understand it?
  • We will be doing a lab activity or two this week. No homework, no lab. No vocabulary, no lab. THEY MUST BE COMPLETE, ORGANIZED, & NEAT.

  • Homework: Read SIA9 p184-190, omit p189. Pay close attention to, learn, & understand the following figures: 1.3 (nitrogen cycle), 1.4 (fertilizer, what do the numbers mean?), & 1.6 (sanitary landfills).

  • What is clean water? Define it. What does it mean to your group?

  • Is clean water a basic Human Right? Why or Why not?

  • Is it our responsibility to make sure everyone has access to clean water? Why or Why not?
    • In what ways do we pollute water? List them.
  • Could we run out of water? How would that affect us?
    • HOMEWORK: Read sia9 p180 - medicines in the environment. Why is this unit important?
