• STUDY HARD!
• Be sure to practice the old PAT exam!!!
• Go through the index of each section of each unit and decide what you need to study the most then Re-read the sections of the book you are unsure about.
• Make notes on sections that are complicated for you.
• Use http://www.exambank.com/ to practice some multiple choice questions.
• Notes on each section (more notes than I gave you) are available on http://www.edquest.ca/ as well as practice quizzes and tests
• Review the Final Exam Example that was given out in class; answers are on Ms. Wilson's door; come in and check your answers Friday, Monday or Tuesday (Tutorial days)
• Some good tricks are; to READ the question CAREFULLY. Then RE-READ the question to make sure you understand what it is asking, COVER UP THE ANSWERS, see if you can answer the question BEFORE you look at the choices, DO PROCESS OF ELIMINATION, cross out the answers you KNOW are not correct, then work with the left overs.
• Do a quick review of the notes that were given out to you on each unit

Last Week Was Kind of a Crazy Week:

• Wednesday we had an assembly with Mitch Dorge. What did you think? What did you learn? He had alot of interesting things to say. Have you gone to his website yet?
• Thursday was kind of like a snow day, but not. We still did work in the classroom. You got an electricity worksheet that shows you how to read a meter, and had a crossword on the back for you VOCABULARY words.

Today in SCIENCE we:

• Were reminded about CURRENT EVENTS TOMORROW. Is it your turn?
• Finished the textbook check. You should be bringing your textbook with you to every class.
• Did a quiz! Got to use your textbook. Gee, it sure would help if you brought it to class.
• Continued to work on our Carbon Dioxide Emissions activity from yesterday. You got the data for the second graph today. Make sure your graphs have a PROPER TITLE, & that the X axis & Y axis are LABELLED ACCURATELY!
• HOMEWORK: finish the activity on p231. You should have ALL of the steps completed, #1-9. Answer any questions on the back of your second graph. DUE MONDAY.
• On Monday you will hand in the completed activity on p231. This includes: 1 double line graph, 1 single line graph, questions written out with answers on the back of the second graph.
• Unit Final is still scheduled for NEXT WEDNESDAY! If you have extra time this weekend you should be REVIEWING. Start with the KEY CONCEPTS at the begining of each section. We have done ALOT of work with this unit, it is related to Biodiveristy, Matter & Chemical Change, & RIVERWATCH! You know alot, dazzle us with your brilliance!

• Reviewed our Homework & Handed it in.
• Did a textbook check. Did you come after school if you did not have your textbook in class?
• Have moved from WATER QUALITY to AIR QUALITY.
• Looked at the skill practice on p226. Do you understand the graph about nitrogen oxides?
• What is a trend?
• Started the Inquiry activity on p231. You should have completed #1 & 2. We will continue analyzing carbon dioxide emissions tomorrow. How are your graphing skills?
• HOMEWORK: STUDY FOR YOUR QUIZ.

• Talked about PPM (parts per million)
• What did we do with food colouring & water?
• Did you bring a drink with a nutritional label? What information do we get? Have a look at some bottled water, do you understand all of the units?
• Did some practice calculations on the board.
• Did a PPM worksheet. Do you understand the steps?
• Can you solve a PPM problem?
• Homework: sia9 p224 #6-10. You may do this on the same page as yesterday's homework (p224 #1-4, in case you forgot!)

• Did a quiz & marked it. How did you do? We were allowed to use our textbooks, did you have yours with you? It sure would have made things easier.
• Got assigned some questions. The amount of time you had to work on these questions was directly proportional to how much class time you wasted.
• P203 #1-4, AND p209 #1-7, #8 is a bonus question. DUE FRIDAY.

• Completed Lab sheet is DUE on TUESDAY.

• Talked about our CWA. You will finish it tomorrow, bring your planning, lined paper, and something to write with. Be prepared to work on this for the full class.
• You don't need to study for your CWA, but plan properly!!!
• Did a lab. Was it an acid or a base? How well does litmus paper work? What are the disadvantages of using litmus paper? What are the advantages?
• Complete the analysis questions on the back of your lab sheet. This will be due on MONDAY.

• We read through the test, made notes in the booklet, did the planning.
• Do you understand the questions? The readings?

• Did you underline or highlight the vocabulary you were unsure of?
• What is YOUR opinion? Can you SUPPORT it? Use the readings we reviewed today, your experience on the field trip to the delightful Bonnybrook, your textbook, & any other research you choose to do between now & Thursday. For example, who is the largest producer of oil?
• You did good work today. Don't forget to bring your sheet of notes with you on Thursday to write your response to the question!

• Did a lab! How do acids & bases react when mixed together?
• Do they need water to do something interesting? Why or Why not?
• How can you tell a chemical reaction is taking place?
• Do you understand how a tripple beam balance works? Say that ten times really fast!
• Were you able to complete the lab successfully?
• Complete the lab sheet for homework.
• Listened to the Acids & Bases song. Yes, there is a song! Filled in the blanks for the lyrics on the back of our lab sheet. There is alot of really useful information in that song!
• 9D & 9G - you will be handing in p195 #1-7 on Monday. I forgot to take it in today. This is your "grace period" use it wisely.
• HOMEWORK: Finish the lab sheet! Your CONCLUSIONS should answer the PROBLEM we set out to solve at the begnining of the lab. DUE MONDAY.

• 9D & 9G - handed in sia9 p190 #1-10.
• 9D & 9G - Read sia9 p191-195, did p195 #1-7. You will hand this in tomorrow.
• ALL CLASSES - Talked about pH - litmus paper & Universal Indicators.....how do they work?
• 9A & 9H - watched Planet Earth Ice Worlds - how does it relate to Environmental Chemistry? Think about it, you will be doing a journal entry!
• I gave detentions today. It was a sad day. Come to class prepared with all of your materials, it is not respectful to anyone when you arrive to class empty handed. If you missed your detention, I have your name on a list, if you don't want that list to make its way to administration, you had better come & talk to me.

• 9D & 9G had their presentations about high school registration from Mrs. Murray. If you have any questions please see her. This is VERY important. If you have a change of address please see her by MONDAY at the LATEST!
• 9D & 9G - you will hand in sia9 ayl p 190 #1-10 tomorrow.
• 9A & 9H - felt a bit of my rage. 6 people per class had their homework ready. WHAT?! You had several days and lots of time to get this done. Most disappointing. No homework, no lab activity.
• 9A & 9H - read sia9 p191-195, do p 195 #1-7. Handed it in at the end of class. Do you understand it?
• We will be doing a lab activity or two this week. No homework, no lab. No vocabulary, no lab. THEY MUST BE COMPLETE, ORGANIZED, & NEAT.

What is clean water? Define it. What does it mean to your group?

Is clean water a basic Human Right? Why or Why not?

• In what ways do we pollute water? List them.

Could we run out of water? How would that affect us?

• HOMEWORK: Read sia9 p180 - medicines in the environment. Why is this unit important?
